Voluntary Stewardship Planning Services
Chelan County received a pilot grant to develop a VSP under GMA that enhances agriculture while protecting critical areas. BERK developed a robust GIS dataset of agricultural activities in each watershed. We prepared a white paper comparing the regulation of agriculture and critical areas under different laws, and evaluated the ability of other voluntary programs used by agricultural operators to be adapted for use in the VSP. We presented our work at several VSP Staff Work Group and stakeholder meetings for input and discussion. We then developed a draft VSP Work Plan and checklist, which were later adapted following meeting with the VSP Watershed Group, technical service providers, and agricultural producers.
