City of Renton
An Economic & Fiscal Benefits Assessment of the Proposed King County Events Center
BERK prepared an economic and fiscal benefit assessment of a proposed Events Center on behalf of the City of Renton. The Events Center concept was conceived by the City as a venue for National Basketball Association games, and as a future home for the Seattle SuperSonics when the team’s ownership began discussions about moving the Sonics to Oklahoma City.
The analysis focused on quantification of potential benefits of the Events Center from local, County, and State revenue perspectives. This study modeled future operations of the Events Center, identifying total spending and income associated with building operations and planned events. Our analysis also distinguished the flow of money between “new money,” dollars that originate outside the area of study, and “local money,” which originate within the study area.
