Broadway Economic Vitality Agenda 2006-08: A Strategy for an Economically Vital, Livable, Unique, Urban Community
BERK designed and facilitated a citizen Task Force charged with creating an Action Agenda and a new organization to revitalize the Broadway neighborhood business district. The project’s outcomes included a comprehensive Economic Vitality Plan, formation of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce, and a $500,000 City investment plan.
As a successful public-private partnership, the project also helped form new relationships, built leadership capacity with the community, and spurred businesses to step up investment in the area. Businesses provided contributions to match City investments, and have donated in-kind support space for the new Chamber. The Chamber is now a driving force for business attraction, retention, outreach, and communications, and has been active in supporting community goals and priorities related to Sound Transit’s extension of light rail through the neighborhood.
