Evaluation of Public-Private Investments in South Lake Union
Faced with a major rezone of the South Lake Union neighborhood, the City of Seattle wanted a more comprehensive understanding of the changes occurring in the South Lake Union (SLU) neighborhood and to see the lessons learned from the SLU example. Our report focused on the broader context and community impact resulting from various public actions and infrastructure investments in the neighborhood, and evaluated the ways that public actions around land use and infrastructure influenced private investment decisions in South Lake Union. Our study revealed that City actions lined up with market and private interests, helping to encourage a significant amount of neighborhood change—change that helped to advance broader neighborhood, City, and regional goals.
