Public Information Element of the Puget Sound Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Program Disaster Coordination Plan

BERK assisted thee City of Seattle’s Office of Emergency Management in establishing a regional public information protocol, one element of the eight-county Puget Sound Regional Catastrophic Preparedness Program Disaster Coordination Plan. The Public Information Element will guide information collection, sharing, and public dissemination in the event of a regional catastrophic emergency.

We assessed current information and communication needs and gaps to develop recommendations for the Public Information Element, organized by before, during and after a catastrophic event. We then built regional consensus and finalized the strategies through discussion of options, opportunities, and challenges with stakeholders. The final Public Information Element was reviewed and adopted by the Puget Sound region.
