Spokane Health Sciences Research Strategic Investment Plan

BERK worked with the Health Sciences and Services Authority of Spokane County (HSSA) and Empire Health Foundation (EHF) on a Strategic Investment Plan to increase the level of health sciences research activity and funding in the Spokane area. Together, HSSA and EHF plan to invest up to $12.5 million in the next 10 years, and aim to attract another $5 million from collaborating funders.

BERK conducted stakeholder interviews to assess the challenges and opportunities related to establishing a critical mass of health science research activity in the region. In collaboration with a core project team and the HSSA Board, we developed a targeted investment plan that focuses on three strategic goals, prioritizing investments in human capital, innovative research to expedite commercialization, and research that positions Spokane as a national leader in health delivery research.
