King County Library System

Sno-Isle/Pierce Library Cross Use Study

To examine the reciprocal borrowing agreement between the library systems, BERK reviewed February 2008 cross-use data from KCLS to determine the number of checkouts and holds that come from patrons who live in the service area of the Sno-Isle Library District and the Pierce County Library District. We determined the checkouts by each system in total and by KCLS branch.

We prepared summary materials that included exhibits showing absolute numbers of checkouts and cross-use calculations,  and maps showing the percentage of cross-use at each branch — for Sno-Isle cross-use and for Pierce cross-use. KCLS branches with the highest rates of cross-use were those near the border of other library districts.
