Port of Seattle

Tourism Study

In January 2012, the Port of Seattle Commission approved the Century Agenda strategic goals, which communicate a common vision for how the Port can serve the public interest for the next 25 years. One of the goals is to “Advance this region as a leading tourism destination and business gateway”. As part of the ongoing efforts to improve the net operating income of its business units, the Port reviewed its Tourism Program to determine whether there may be untapped revenue opportunities that could be pursued which would also enhance the overall tourism goals of the organization.

Toward this end, the Port contracted with BERK to do a general overview of the program and to specifically conduct research to determine whether other ports earn revenue from direct tourism-related business activities and if so, if the sources of revenue or programs and/or services that generate revenue could be adapted to help fund the Port of Seattle’s Tourism Program.
