Head Start, ECEAP, and Step Ahead 2011 Community Needs Assessment and 2012 Update

BERK worked with Seattle Head Start grantees, as well as ECEAP and Step Ahead preschool programs, to gather and analyze a broad array of demographic, socio-economic, education, health, housing, transportation, and other types of data that describe Seattleā€™s families and children and the needs in the community. The goal of the Community Needs Assessment is to inform program planning, allowing the preschool programs to make adjustments based on changing needs and demographics and to revise short- and long-range objectives. The project included data gathering, analysis, mapping, and development of a concise and readable report.

The following year BERK completed a required yearly update of the assessment, including updated exhibits (where new data was available), a look at trends based on changes over the last year, and a discussion around potential program implications of the Assessment.
