Housing Action Planning
Housing affordability is an urgent challenge in communities across Washington State. While many aspects of the housing market are out of the control of local jurisdictions, there are actions that cities and counties can take to address affordability. However, it is not always clear which actions will be most effective at promoting the types of housing development that can meet local needs.
Thanks to new grant funding available from the Washington State Department of Commerce, many local jurisdictions will have the opportunity to conduct planning studies to help find the right housing solutions for their own communities. BERK has experience developing housing plans in collaboration with local governments across the state. We have found that developing effective solutions requires a deep understanding of demographic trends, real estate economics, land use policy, regulatory tools, financial constraints, and effective community and stakeholder engagement. BERK’s housing practice integrates these areas of expertise to support local governments in the development of housing action plans that can garner broad support for implementation.
